We all could use a little more peace and quiet, especially in this day and age. We’ve got constant noise around us, emails and notifications begging for our attention, and an ENDLESS opportunity to scroll right at our fingertips.
We. Need. Stillness.
Of course, we have to make the time for it. It might sound wonderful and luxurious to have an hour for meditation in the morning or evenings totally free of media and noise. But – that might not be real life for you. And that’s okay.
You don’t have to reinvent your life in order to find stillness. Simply make minor shifts where you can. You don’t need an hour. You don’t even need thirty minutes. Anything is better than nothing. And you’ll still reap the benefits.
Check out these 5 simple, real-life ways to have a little more peace in your day-to-day life.
1) Make your commute noise-free
I love a good podcast or audiobook as much as the next person, but sometimes your time in the car is the only chance you’ll get for some quiet time – so let’s take advantage of it! Turn off the music, put your phone on silent, and let your mind soak up the silence.
2) Meditate with a free app or Youtube video
There are so many resources out there, even if you just have 5 minutes! Try an app like Headspace or search on Youtube for a meditation that fits your style. Remember, every moment counts! A few minutes of meditation every day is much better than nothing. Do what you can.
3) Turn off the TV during meals
There’s something so tempting about watching television while you eat. Maybe it’s because it’s the only chance you get to catch your favorite show at the end of the day, and you aren’t doing anything else while you eat. Try turning off the TV and having family dinner with your kids or partner. Or, if you’re flying solo, even better! Take this chance to be mindful of your meal.
4) Take a deep breath (or several!)
This seems simple, because it is. But when was the last time you did it? Try it now. Deep breath in. Hold 1, 2, 3. Breathe out. Try doing this throughout your day, and notice how such a small action can remind you to slow down in life’s crazy moments.
