Whether you work in an office with a team or from the comfort of your own home, your workspace has a major impact on the quality of the work you produce. Since more people work from home now than ever, it’s crucial that you set your home office up for success!
Check out these 8 must-haves you need in your space so you can always get your best work accomplished:
Getting your best work done starts with a comfortable workspace. And a comfortable workspace begins with your seat! A comfy desk chair is a must-have when you’re spending a lot of time seated in deep work. In fact, it’s one investment you never want to skip.
I’m obsessed with my Kelly Clarkson desk chair, and I love these chairs from IKEA for some extra support. Check out this list of top rated office chairs and find your perfect fit!
Ditch the drab drywall some color to your space! I recently renovated my at-home workspace with some beautiful wallpaper. Not only is it super fun when I’m working, but it gives me a fabulous backdrop for my video calls and meetings. Plus, it just gives the room that little extra oomph that makes me excited to show up and get things done.
Consider adding an accent wall to your space if committing to all 4 walls feels over the top. Removable wallpaper is a fantastic option for experimenting with different vibes — just stick it on and peel it off when you’re done!
Don’t strain your eyes! Good lighting is a necessity for focus and productivity. Science shows that poor lighting can ultimately impact your mindset — a dull, dim room doesn’t exactly do wonders for your motivation.
This desk lamp is one of my fav additions to my home office. The brightness is adjustable, and it doesn’t take up too much space on my desk while I’m working. Himalayan salt lamps are another fun lighting addition that have added benefits like air purification. And if you’re spending a lot of time on video or creating video content, this mini ring light is a must-have.
Most of your work likely happens at your desk, so assess your current sitch. Is your desk cluttered and messy? Is it bare? Is it easy to locate what you need?
Level up your desk with some simple organization tools. Filing systems, pen & pencil holders, and mini drawer sets are a lifesaver for keeping all your must-haves hidden away but still easily accessible. And if you really want to level up your desk, consider investing in a standing desk. This one can be raised or lowered with the press of a button, and it offers preset options so you can easily adjust throughout the day.
Calling all green thumbs! Adding a plant or two to your workspace is a great way to purify the air while doubling as cute decor. If your space is feeling a little bland, an office plant may be your perfect match. Good news — you don’t have to be a seasoned gardener to keep most office-friendly plants alive!
Snake plants require minimal attention and add a beautiful touch to your office space. Bamboo or aloe plants are some other low maintenance choices. If all else fails, fake plants are always an option!
Make sure your workspace feels like you. It’s so much easier to focus and be productive when you feel at home in your space and you can fully own it. Add some personal touches to your workspace, like a photo with a friend or a note from a loved one. These kinds of additions not only step up your workspace, but they offer you an encouraging reminder of who you are and what you can do.
I love this photo holder for displaying multiple pics in one small space. Add a few motivational quote designs or affirmations into your mix for a personalized collage that pushes you towards your goals!
Keep extra supplies nearby in your workspace so you can be prepared for anything. Depending on the work you do, this may differ for everyone, but it’s usually a safe bet to stock up on the office basics: paper, pens, printer ink, etc. Having these items available in your office combats the need to break your focus and run to the store!
Create a stockpile of supplies away from your desk but close by for easy access. These document/letter sorters are another great addition to your space to keep you from piling up important papers and losing important info. They can hold the documents you need to store and keep them out of the way.
Too much clutter piling up in your office can eventually get stressful, even if you’re an organized-chaos kind of person. To stay efficient, make sure everything has a place.
If you’re in a pinch, at least be sure the room you’re in has a closet you can shove some clutter in until it can be effectively dealt with. Out of sight, out of mind can be a powerful strategy! But to avoid the issue of clutter altogether, follow the ‘Leave the Room’ rule. It’s highly likely something in your room needs to come with you to a different room when you leave. Each time you head to another room, bring those things with you so they can get where they need to go. Bring your old coffee mug to the kitchen, your robe back to the bathroom, anything that can (and will!) distract you. This will keep your space tidy and neat so you can focus when you need to!
