Labels tend to get a bad rap because, well, most of the time they aren’t all that positive. Our brains like labels because they help us process information quickly. They help us identify who we are in relation to our work, our personalities, and the people we hold close to us.
There is one label that we just gotta let go of. We’ve begun to attach so much weight to this it that it prevents us from going after the life we want. And we just can’t have that, can we?
Yup, that’s the one. It’s everywhere in the productivity world. Which is pretty impressive, considering it really…means…nothing.
Now, the initial meaning of “morning person” is, of course, someone who happens to enjoy to waking up early. But over time, we’ve let this label morph into the ultimate, end-all-be-all of productivity.
What do most people mean when they say “morning person”? At the root of it, it often sounds to me like they mean someone focused on their goals, invested in their future, and taking consistent action.
None of these things are specific to the number on your alarm clock.
Let’s set the record straight.
If you find yourself struggling with the idea of being a “morning person”, let it go.
It’s not some badge of honor you have to possess in order to be seen as credible. It’s one thing to be a morning person, but it’s another to be an ambitious person. A productive person. A person with ideas and strategies for success.
Waking up before the sun is not the determinate. It never has been. Don’t let it be for you.
