(0:44) What to expect from today’s episode

(7:02) Remember the 80/20 Rule
(7:37) A few creators offered up information from their private conversations with Instagram.
(8:32) Size doesn’t matter… potential does
(9:30) These creators came prepared with questions… similar to the ones we all have:
Why is engagement decreasing if trust and credibility has been earned?
(10:14) The answer always seems to be how and which features you’re using, which is how they ultimately offered very similar advice in each of these separate instances to creators of the platform.
Remember… mental health.
(15:11) Even creators find this to be an INSANE ask. Because business is not completely about what you’re creating… it’s only a part of the conversation.
So if you own a business and hope Instagram will help and you’re now discouraged, don’t be. We can come to our own determination of this soon.
Social media works for a reason… psychology. If we see a new feature, it’s because it work with retaining attention.
That’s all any of us want, so of course the platform wants it for you as well because it ultimately helps them. Partially hacking psychology and getting attention. Partially building relationships
(16:50) Take Reels Seriously… no matter how often you post.
It’s not just about being a reel. It’s about entertaining for a short period of time with the option of no sound on.
(18:29) Show to tell.
(19:08) Stories are starting to get boring to people. So be more selective and creative about how you post there.
Turns out you only need 2 or so a day… when most people post double digits on a regular basis.
(19:46) Your double digit stories are not going to compensate for missing reels. Take them seriously and be just as creative as you would for a Reel. The attention is still coveted.
(20:55) ALWAYS use interactive features to make it more likely you appear in the future.
Believe me when I say… I feel you. The struggle is real.
(27:15) It is SO easy to watch incredible creators on Instagram and feel like you’ll never be able to create anything as wonderful as what they’ve done.
Get outside of your fixed mindset. The more you tell yourself that it’s not something possible for your because you’re “not creative” or “not talented” the more you give yourself that lifelong diagnosis of STUCK and UNABLE.
It doesn’t have to be a diagnosis if you switch to the growth mindset and do one thing to show you what you’re capable of.
(28:01) My advice is a couple of things. This is what has helped me:
Content: What do you want to be known for?
Format: What do you enjoy watching?
When you think about what you want to be known for and then ask yourself “How can I display that as a photo? Or a reel? or a story? or a live IGTV?” you can start a brainstorm that is actually helpful for your planning purposes.
(28:51) ALSO: Sometimes your best ideas come when you just turn the camera on… not keep scrolling Instagram itself.
I highly recommend you get a tripod that is lightweight and has an attachment for a smartphone. Don’t even go into IG. Just use the video recording option on your phone so you capture it and can turn it into anything you want later. You just need to be able to set it up and record when the opportunity strikes.
I can tell you first hand, don’t even sweat it.
(31:03) When I got verified, engagement became SIGNIFICANTLY harder. It’s like the competition went up and my relationships started disappearing as soon as I had the badge.
You can always apply and keep applying. It will happen when it happens. If you don’t have good practices on the platform, that badge will literally do nothing to help.
Not to mention… it becomes a strong possibility when you actually have a contact at the social network. When someone inside can advocate for you.
If you post smart, they will start reaching out to you to see how they can support. Instagram wants to help its promising creators because it helps them. You don’t have to have millions for them to care.
