Here’s the unofficial GATLUW mantra when it comes to resolution-setting: dream big, but start small.
Like, ridiculously small.
Let me give you an example, before I share my 22 bite-sized goal ideas for 2022. You want to start working out in the mornings, so your goal reads, “Three days a week, I will wake up 30 minutes earlier to get movement in before getting ready for the work day.”
While that’s a fantastic goal to aim for, it also contains several building block goals that might lose momentum pretty easily.
Here’s the really, really bite-sized version of that goal: “Three days a week, I will put my workout clothes on before getting ready for the work day.”
That’s it.
Just putting your workout clothes on is the initial action that spurs the goal you’re actually shooting for. How likely is it that you’ll take the time to put all your workout gear on, lace up your shoes, and then take it all off without getting your movement in?
Not likely.
Once you’ve gone through the hassle of getting ready to work out, chances are you’ll follow through on actually working out. By starting with an extra achievable habit, you’ve actually set yourself up for greater success than if you had set an unattainable goal in the first place.
Keeping this practice in mind, try out one (or more!) of these ideas below! These are all goals you can tackle on a daily basis, build upon as you go, and turn into habits that will serve you all year long. Win, win, win!
