Stop Taking Things Personally

Our impulses seem to catch us off guard, but they are actually quite predictable.

Think of a time you reacted in a situation that didn’t have to go the way it did. What was it that made you flip the switch? Can you remember seeing it happen with someone else? What appeared that set them off in that direction?

This is why we must not take anything personally.

When someone reacts in a way that feels impulsive and they are misunderstanding the situation, seek not to teach but instead observe. No matter what happened, they simply cannot control their impulses.

The same goes for you in those moments when you feel you seem to ‘lose it.’ Have you practiced controlling your reactions? Would you let anyone abandon you as quickly and still treat them well the way you allow your impulsive state to occupy your life?
