My name is Amy Landino and I'm an author, influencer and keynote speaker.
Read more about me
One of the most important things that I spend my time on is absorbing the advice and experiences of others. There’s no better way to do that than to read. I read books every day, whether it’s non-fiction, a memoir, or some other form of teaching that is helping me be a better version of myself in this moment.
The way I make sure to read regularly is by having a book at the ready in every different format. I read physical books. I read ebooks on my Kindle Oasis, and I listen to books on Audible. Sometimes, I even read the summary of a book if I don’t think I’ll have time for the whole thing with an app called Blinkist. I’m usually reading 3 books at a time: a page-a-day physical book, a Kindle book, and an Audible book.
On Kindle: Unshakeable: Your Guide to Financial Freedom by Tony Robbins
As we physically distance ourselves at home to avoid the spread of COVID-19, businesses are suffering. When businesses suffer, the world looks at the markets to see what the current state of our investments are. We’re experiencing what the financial world calls “a bear market” right now. This kind of market causes many to be fearful of losing their life’s investments. I’ve decided to re-read Unshakeable in response to this because it’s best to get an objective opinion about the right moves to make during volatile times like this rather than react emotionally and make drastic decisions. I highly recommend this read if you’re currently overwhelmed about the state of your investments.
On Audible: Intuitive Eating: A Revolutionary Program That Works by Evelyn Tribole, MS, RD
Another result of physical distancing is being home a lot. When you’re home a lot, you’re close to your kitchen… a lot. It can be easy to feel guilty about all the eating and drinking that therefore ensues and try to convince yourself to go on a diet or fast for a couple of days or any other drastic measure when it comes to calorie intake. I’m reading Intuitive Eating for the first time because it seemed like the right decision for reframing how to think about food when you have constant flexibility at home to eat and cook. Listening to what your body actually wants while you’re going through a massive routine change is a very good idea, and I’m finding that this book is helping me with that significantly.
Paperback Page-A-Day: The Daily Stoic: 366 Meditations on Wisdom, Perseverance, and the Art of Living by Ryan Holiday
Get used to seeing this one! I have been reading this book every day for the last 462 days. A daily dose of stoicism with Ryan’s best selling book is one of the ways I kick off my morning routine. I feel it balances my thinking, judgments and level-headedness as I encounter the rest of the day’s obstacles. Last year as I read it everyday, I just made a point to underline the things that resonated with me in that moment. This year as I reread The Daily Stoic, it’s nice to see those underlines, but even nicer to find that there is more I have learned from the passages over my time of studying this philosophy, so everyday of 2020 I’ve been writing my interpretation of the day’s passages underneath it. Some of them turned out to be some pretty darn good tweets, if I do say so myself.
