The 5am Club: Make Your Mornings Matter

Wanna join the 5am club? Who doesn’t?!

Okay, okay..maybe 5am doesn’t sound super fun to you right now. I get it. But waking up early is one of the best ways you can start your day by showing up for YOURSELF. And guess what:

You don’t even have to wake up at 5am for your mornings to matter!

When people wake up early for themselves, they’re not often just setting a goal of waking up at 5am or 6am or 7am. They’re reverse-engineering their life to find time for the things they love. Is there something you want to do that you don’t have time for later in the day? Reverse engineer your day, and see when you can make it happen in the morning. Maybe it’s 6am before the kids wake up for school. Maybe its 5am before you head to the gym and commute to work. It’s about finding what works for your life.

MAKE YOUR MORNING MATTER

I don’t call the people in the 5am/early risers/whatever you want to call it club “morning people”. The most important thing about the club is you don’t have to be a morning person to join.

You don’t have to be a morning person to make your morning matter.

You just have to know what’s important to you, and know that you need to find time for it.

Here are 5 tips to join the 5am club TOMORROW:

Schedule your bedtime

You need 7-8 hours of sleep every night in order to live a long, happy life. So when do you need to go to bed if you want to wake up earlier? Reverse engineer your time and put your bedtime on the calendar. It’s an appointment you have with yourself — and it’s an important one!

Plan your morning in advance

So many people fall into the trap of waking up at 5am…and that’s it. If you haven’t planned a routine for yourself, you’re much more likely to hit the snooze. Plan what you’re going to do with your morning the night before.

Don’t forget to reflect

The biggest thing we tend to miss is the “why” behind the things we do. If you never connect with the fact that you made a difference for yourself, you can’t find a solid “why”. Reflect on the change you made and notice how it made you feel. I recommend taking a moment immediately after your routine or later the same evening to journal or meditate on your morning.
