More Than One YouTube Channel

I’m back with another monthly Q&A. I went over to my Twitter and let you know I’d be accepting questions with the hashtag #AskSSS.  I love answering questions from you – anything from “should I have more than one YouTube channel” and “how do you take care of your hair?”


Monthly Q&As are great for getting a question answered quickly, and one of the best ways for you and I to keep in touch. Be sure to watch out of next month’s Q&A – I just might answer your question in a video.

I love spending time on Twitter and tweeting on a regular basis. I also pay very close attention to the replies I get back from people on my email list. There is so much content inspiration from people letting me what they need, and I try to take that inspiration and create something I know will be valuable to you.

I also try to pay attention to what is trending. I like connecting the dots between what people are experiencing and what is actually happening in our arena of going after the life you want.

I pay attention to my surroundings so I can make videos to help you make sense of what’s happening in the online world.


I definitely think it’s fine to have a few content areas on one channel. On this channel, I create vlogs about my life, I create video with a specific subject matter, and sometimes I create musical book reviews.

The only time your channel should change is when the person you’re talking to is not the same person as another channel. If the person you vlog for is the same kind of person across the board, then keep it all on the same channel.

You don’t want to spread yourself too thin by creating multiple channels to fulfill various niches. If they are geared to different people, then yes, keep it separate. Otherwise, focus all of your talent and energy on one thing.

Sarah – washing hair

I don’t. I’m very OCD, so I completely pin my hair back and use a headband to protect my hair when I wash my face.

I don’t wash my hair too much and I have found that because of this routine, my hair doesn’t produce too much oil, so I can go longer between washes.


If you’re only comparing yourself to your subscriber number, then it’s going to be a long, hard battle. There are channels with millions of subscribers, so don’t go there.

Everyone is being weighed for different reasons. Go to your sponsor confidently. Let them know about your community, how you’ve educated them, and how they respond to what you talk about. Explain how the sponsor fits into the relationships you’ve already built.

Reframe your mindset; don’t worry about your subscriber number. Focus on the value you’ve already packaged for yourself to be set up for success.


Figure out if you are making video content for the people in that country.

If you are, go where the people are hanging out. Period. Maybe that means YouTube; maybe it doesn’t. It’s about your audience, not YouTube. Create something for your audience first and worry about the “right” platform later.

Don’t force YouTube just because that’s what is happening in the US.

If you’re marketing to a different country than your home country, don’t pay attention to the trends in your home country. If your videos are for someone else and they hang out on YouTube, then put your content there.
