What’s Your Oath of Office?
With President Obama swearing in for his second term, I had a thought:
Good to know everyone’s all sworn in again. #inauguration Maybe I should swear myself in regularly to reiterate my goals & responsibilities?

At first I thought it would be a funny tweet, but I realized it wasn’t a half bad idea. We all get into a place with our work where we’re sort of in a rut. Stressing about our work load, the type of clients we’re working with, the direction our brand is going, whether we’re making the right decisions, etc. It can be so overwhelming, you might forget why you’re doing what you’re doing. Until you get back to basics.
The Presidential Oath states the following:
I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. (wiki)
Heavy right? But if you think about it with all the bullshit and politics that a nation’s leader has to deal with, it all comes back to this promise.
You and I may not have to please a nation of people, but being accountable to yourself and your family is just as important. The satisfaction of knowing and reminding yourself that you’re pursuing something purposefully does wonders for your self esteem and productivity.
I feel like my oath would be something like “I do solemnly swear that I will create and share entertaining, educational and engaging content that best represents the brand and how I can effectively help my audience to my best ability.” What do you think?
What does the Oath of Office look like for you?
