5 Things Turning New Facebook Fans Away

We all know the benefits of having a healthy Facebook community. It’s just another avenue you can reach a whole new audience. However, we see quite a lot businesses who don’t have a clue what to post and when, and in the process, turning off their followers or others from even “liking” them in the first place.

Here is an outline of 5 things that turn off fans and friends on Facebook:

1) Too Many Posts

Users have a bit more control now over what comes up in their feed, while Facebook’s Edgerank algorithm will filter out those pages which aren’t often interacted with. However, one still needs to keep a tight grip on posting too often. What you don’t want to do is come off as erratic or be one of those people who posts the same thing over and over. Just as bad can be posting every little detail of your life. Facebook fans and friends only have so many “likes” they want to dish out.

2) Not Enough Posts

On the other end of the scale, there are those who post once in a blue moon. It is understandable why they do this: if someone liked you on a whim last year, they may have since forgotten who they’re friends with or who they’re following. If you stay quiet, you’ll still technically be their friend or have their all-important like. However, for those with a vested interest in you, you won’t appear very active or on the ball in your field if you don’t comment or post links on the latest news in your niche or area. It also limits how much of your content is shared to others.

3) Irrelevant Content

This tends to happen when users combine their business and personal Facebooks together, or if they’re new to Facebook. There are only so many adorable pictures of cats or motivational phrases one can stand before it gets annoying. Look briefly at the profiles of your followers to gauge an idea of what they would probably like to see from you. You should also consider those browsing their feed on mobile devices like phones, where any dull or irrelevant content will clog up their feed that much more.

4) Not Replying to Questions

If friends or followers take the time to ask you a question, they have done so because they want an answer and are happy for their friends to see this activity. They’re proud of getting in contact with you, so they deserve an answer back. You can always answer them in their post or refer them to their inbox where you can reply privately if you wish. For pages with a lot of followers, even if you can simply like every wallpost, it will show you acknowledge them and their effort to communicate with you.

5) Scheduling Posts

Sometimes scheduling posts is effective and helpful for when you want something to go out at a time when you can’t make it to a computer, or you want to target a specific demographic who will be online at that time. However, relying on old news and scheduling it to go live at a later period can be lazy and make you appear incredibly out-of-touch. If events or circumstances change, you can look insensitive if something you schedule to go live looks bad in a new light when it does. It also encourages users to be lazy with the kind of content they post; the kind which probably won’t be shared.
