How To Find Guest Blogging Opportunities

So you know that I’m all about preaching the importance of blogger outreach, right? Well a part of that journey is sharing your specialty advice on other relevant blogs to help you grow your own audience. Now, you’ll have to read my eBook to learn how to create a lasting relationship with connected bloggers and, in turn, have them offer you a spotlight in front of their audience. But in the meantime, you want to be sharing your expertise with the world.

One of the best way to do that is to look for bloggers who are already in the market for people in their niche to share blogs on their website. There is no doubt that this will be the first way to start growing your audience, but it’s also a great way to start a portfolio of social proof that you do have a presence online and how you’ve been taking advantage of it.

Check out the following tips for finding those guest blogging opportunities so you can get writing, sharing, and growing:

Google Alerts

Searching Google is obviously the best way to find anything on the web, but it can also be extremely overwhelming to go through ever result. By utilizing Google Alerts, you will not only get your own digest of the results you want to see, but they will be current and new so you’re not checking dated information. SO much easier.
Here are a few examples of how you can program a search to get the results you’re looking for:
– “your niche” + inurl:guest-post
– “your niche” + “looking for” + “guest posts”
– “your niche” + intitle:”write for us”
– “your niche” + intitle:”contribute”

You can figure out that there are many ways to set up your search to get different results, but these will definitely get you started.

Talk to people you know who guest blog frequently

Maybe you’ve stumbled across someone that is guest blogging on the blogs your follow the most? Get in touch with them! If they have time to share their secrets, they probably will. But more than anything, they’ll be glad that you noticed because that’s what guest blogging is all about… growing awareness!
Ask what their strategy is for guest blogging on the blogs that they choose. And how they make a good impression on those bloggers to get the opportunity. Since my guide is great for general information on schmoozing the blogger, it will be very helpful if you can get a direct insider’s tips as well.

Tweet it out

Let your community know that you’re looking for an opportunity to share your knowledge on a guest blog. You will probably get recommendations from people who know your content/niche and a blog that you would compliment well. As a matter of fact, don’t stop there. You can use the same keywords you were using in your Google Alerts search to check the Twitter streams for similar demand.

Join a guest blogging community

There are a few communities you can join organized to bring guest bloggers together with people looking for guest bloggers. The one that I receive emails from every week is Blogger Link Up. It’s a great digest of all the listings, including giveaway opportunities if you’re looking for that kind of thing. I also hear that My Blog Guest is a good community as well.

Check with your favorite blogs

If there is a blog that you frequently read and would like to contribute to, look for their guest blogging guidelines. More than likely you can easily just send an email to the blog owner or editorial calendar manager with your post idea and find out if there is open opportunity.

For guest bloggers who specialize in social media:

We are always looking for great guest blogs here on Savvy Sexy Social. All posters must follow the guest guidelines and can send me their post idea via email to get started.

Also, another blog that I post to often is Tweetfind, and they are looking for guest contributors as well. Find out more on their latest blog post and contact Stevie for more details.
